A Few More Ideas for Your Preschool Pumpkin / Halloween Theme - A Not So Scary Halloween

Here are a few more (not spooky) ideas from this past week.  There is so much great material for this time of year, it is hard to get it all in!  The children have really been enjoying all the activities, especially the water table and art.

Here is a very simple felt board idea! It's just an orange oval with black triangles, circles and mouth shapes. Very easy, but invites imaginative play.

Below is an activity at the manipulative table. The dish was found at the local grocery store in the "seasonal" aisle. The erasers were found at a drug store! Children are enjoying sorting the four different styles of erasers into the tray. It is colorful and really works those fine motor skills and early math (sorting) concepts.
Warm, purple, bubbly water with pumpkins, sponges and "gems" in the water table.
Another teacher on our team did lovely pumpkin painting. She didn't slice the pumpkins in half, rather she just used the mini pumpkins whole and put the paint in small bowls. The finished "pumpkin patches" are really neat.  The natural brown paper for the background worked just right.

The following is a little song for circle time. The message is great, as we continue to talk about Halloween and all the unusual pretend things the children are seeing in their world right now.

We're Not Afraid
(sung to Twinkle, Twinkle)
Ghosts and goblins, cats and bats,
We're not afraid of this or that.
They are only make believe,
funny costumes on Halloween.
Ghosts and goblins, cats and bats,
We're not afraid of this or that!
